A Fresh Start By David Dupler
Christmas is just a few days away. Everyone has their traditions and fond memories of Christmas’ past. Then next week, we will usher in the new year. It’s hard to believe that 2009 is over and 2010 is almost here.
When I think of Christmas and New Year’s Day, I can’t help but think of a fresh start. They provide us with the promise of new beginnings.
In Christmas the birth of the Savior gives us a choice between life and death. We can’t begin to realize the importance of that opportunity. Jesus was born to die. Jesus was born to release us from bondage…to give us life. You may be reading this blog and have never accepted this new life, this fresh start. You can accept Jesus right now by confessing your sin to Him and acknowledging that He died for you. Surrender your life to Him.
Others reading this may have already accepted Christ, but you need a fresh start in a particular area of your life. You too can have a fresh start by acknowledging (confessing) that there is a problem and asking Jesus for help.
The new year provides us with a time that’s convenient for us to say, “from this day forward I will…”. Maybe you think that New Year’s resolutions can be kind of fruitless, but I encourage you to not dismiss them all together. They only become fruitless because of us. When we attempt them in our own strength. This year why not make a resolution based on scripture, not some whim that you think sounds or looks good.
Christmas and New Year’s Day can take on a whole new meaning for you this year. What joy and peace you can have with a fresh start.
